Monday, April 16th, 2012 -   Whippets Dominate . . . Go Home Early
Downingtown traveled down Route 30 to take on the Bishop Shanahan Eagles on Friday afternoon and dominated all phases of the game winning a mercy rule shortened six inning game by a 12-0 score.  The Whippets used stellar pitching, timely hitting and solid defense to get the win which makes them 4-3 on the year . . .

 Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 -   Whippets Win the Battle of Downingtown
Cross-town rival Downingtown East Cougars visited the West campus on a rainy Wednesday afternoon and left with their second Ches-mont loss of their season severely tightening the National Division standings.  The Whippets scored in every inning and used error free defense for a 10-2 win.  Downingtown is now 6-3 on the year and on a three game winning streak . . .

 Friday, April 20th, 2012 -   Whippets Train Rolling
Downingtown visited West Chester for an important early season Ches-mont National Division game with Henderson on a beautiful Friday afternoon.  The game, one of the most exciting in the last few years, featured five lead changes and took eight innings for the Whippets to pull out a 9-5 win.  Downingtown is now 7-3 on the year and on a four game winning streak . . .

 Monday, April 30th, 2012 -   Whippets Grind Out Win Over Kennett
Downingtown travelled to Kennett on Monday afternoon to tangle with the Blue Demons from the Ches-mont American Division.  Downingtown used fourteen base runners to score eight runs and win 8-4.  The win makes the Whippets 10-4 overall and 9-4 in the Ches-mont this year . . .

 Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 -   Whippets Survive Late Rally
Downingtown took its second road trip of the week to Southern Chester County to take on the Avon Grove Red Devils on Wednesday afternoon.  What looked to be a sleepy 6-2 win turned into a nail biting, Rolaids popping, 6 to 5 start the bus let’s get out of here before this goes bad, win.  The victory is the fourth in a row and makes the Whippets 11-4 overall and 10-4 in the Ches-mont . . .

 Friday, May 4th, 2012 -   Whippets Send Message with Big Win over West Chester East
Downingtown hit the road for their third away game of the week as they travelled to West Chester to take on the WC East Vikings.  The Whippets brought the total package of hitting, pitching and fielding with them as they crushed the Vikings 17-3 . . .

 Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 -   Downingtown beats Henderson . . . District Playoffs (and bye?) Next!
The Henderson Warriors visited Downingtown to play for second place in the Ches-mont National Division as well as what this writer has calculated is the second automatic Ches-mont League bid that usually brings with it a first round playoff bye.  That bye will be going to the Whippets as they scored early and then again late to beat the Warriors 4-3.  Henderson did not go home empty handed as they will be getting the first at large playoff bid coming out of the Ches-mont.  The Whippets regular season ended today with their final record at 15-5 overall and 14-5 in the always competitive Ches-mont League . . .

 Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 -   Downingtown Romps Bensalem . . . State Berth on Line Next
The second round of the District 1 baseball playoffs began Wednesday in Downingtown when the Bensalem Fighting Owls came to town to play in front of the largest crowd of the year.  Twenty minutes later, Bensalem was back on the bus and heading home after the Whippets made quick work of them 10-0 in five innings . . .

Whippets Sean Skahan hit an RBI double and it was 7-0.  Dalton Reed’s single drove in Sean with the sixth and final run of the fourth inning and gave the Whippets an 8-0 lead.

 Friday, May 25th, 2012 -  Downingtown Falls 2 Outs Short of States as Hatboro-Horsham rallies in 7th
The quarterfinal round of the District 1 baseball playoffs was played on Friday in Horsham against the #2 seeded Hatboro-Horsham Hatters.  At stake, a Pennsylvania state playoff berth to the winner or a trip to the consolation play-in bracket for the loser.  The Whippets usually solid defense turned shaky and allowed Hatboro-Horsham to get back in the game . . .

 Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 -   Coatesville Ends Downingtown’s Magical Season
The play-in round of the District 1 baseball playoffs got started on Tuesday with Coatesville visiting Downingtown to meet for the third time this season.  Up for grabs was a trip to the consolation play-in bracket final for the winner and the end of the season for the loser.  Coatesville jumped out to a big early lead that the Whippets couldn’t make up and won 14-7.  The loss ends the season for the Whippets with a 16-7 overall record for the year . . .
